Mark Musen
is the Head of Stanford Medical Informatics, Associate Professor of Medicine (Medical Informatics, General Internal Medicine;) and, by courtesy, of Computer Science at Stanford University. Dr. Musen leads the Knowledge Modeling Group at Stanford Medical Informatics. Their group is concerned with the development of new, component-based software architectures for building complex systems. Considerable activity centers around the use of the Protégé knowledge-acquisition methodology to build large, electronic knowledge bases. Dr. Musen serves as co-chair of the annual Banff Knowledge Acquisition Workshops. He is a member of the board of directors of the American Medical Informatics Association. Jan van Bemmel and Dr. Musen recently co-edited the Handbook of Medical Informatics.
