Joseph Selby, Director of the Division of Research (DOR) Kaiser Permanente Northern California, since 1998, is a family physician and clinical epidemiologist and served previously as DOR’s Assistant Director for Health Services Research for 7 years. His research interests and contributions have included studies of the costs, complications and treatment of diabetes mellitus; observational studies of the efficacy and effectiveness of colon cancer screening; studies of geographic variation in coronary angiography and revascularization following myocardial infarction; of the effects of cost-sharing in the emergency department; and, more recently, studies of the costs, utilization, and patient preferences in primary care settings. Currently he is the Principal Investigator of a multisite study of liver failure in type 2 diabetics, and Principal Investigator for the AHRQ master Task Order titled, “Accelerating the Cycle of Research through a Network of Integrated Delivery Systems (IDS)”. Dr. Selby is a member of the AHRQ Healthcare Quality and Effectiveness Research Study Section.
