  James G. Kahn, M.D., M.P.H.

James G. Kahn is an Associate Professor of Health Policy and Epidemiology in the Institute for Health Policy Studies and the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at UCSF. He is an expert in cost-effectiveness analysis in health. He has focused on cost-effectiveness for HIV prevention and treatment, both in the U.S. and abroad, sexually transmitted diseases, reproductive health, and treatment of drug dependency. He also conducts empirical research on medical claims data and on operation of the California safety net. His work has been funded by NIH, CDC, HRSA, SAMHSA, and several private foundations. He has served as consultant to these agencies and to UNAIDS. He is a member of an IOM committee on the public financing of HIV care. He directs the UCSF medical school course on decision and cost-effectiveness analysis in medicine.
