Douglas Owens, M.D., M.Sc.
Douglas Owens is a nationally recognized leader in evidence synthesis, technology assessment, cost-effectiveness analysis, and guideline development. He has extensive corporate level leadership experience, and is also an active primary care clinician at the VA Health Care System, Palo Alto. Dr. Owens is an Associate Professor of Medicine and of Health Research and Policy at Stanford University, where he directs the Program on Clinical Decision Making and Guideline Development at the Center for Primary Care and Outcomes Research (PCOR). In this role, Dr. Owens will direct the organizational resources of PCOR in support of the EPC. PCOR is a highly active research center with 35 core and affiliated faculty, and is home to three postgraduate fellowship training programs. Dr. Owens directs the VA Ambulatory Care Research Fellowship, the VA Postdoctoral Medical Informatics Fellowship, and is Associate Director of the Stanford Fellowship Program in Health Care Research and Health Policy. As director of these programs, he mentors health services researchers and informatics fellows, many of whom have contributed to our EPC projects over the past four years. Dr. Owens was Chief of General Internal Medicine, and Acting Associate Chief of Staff for Ambulatory Care at the VA Health Care System Palo Alto.
