Dr. Linares is the Regional Vice President and National Medical Director for Anthem National Accounts, a consumer and commercial business unit of WellPoint, Inc. He works closely with the medical leadership in Care Management and Clinical Informatics to support the national accounts team and specific client needs. Dr. Linares has an active role in WellPoint's initiative to integrate the use of consumer personal health records and provider electronic health records at the point of care.
Prior to joining WellPoint, Inc. Dr. Linares served as the VPMA for Lumetra in San Francisco and led a national effort to accelerate the adoption of electronic health records in small physician practices under contract with CMS in the Doctor's Office Quality-Information Technology (DOQ-T) special study. Dr. Linares was one of nine individuals to receive the Innovator of the year Award by Healthcare Informatics Magazine in 2005 for his efforts to accelerate adoption of electronic health records. He has also served on the clinical work groups for Cal-RHIO and e-Health Initiative.
Over the past 18 years he has served in diverse leadership roles which include the founding medical director for California's Department of Managed Health Care, the corporate VP, Medical Action Planning for CIGNA Healthcare, the founding CMO for OSF Health Plans, and medical director roles for Aetna Health Plans, Adventist Health, and Community Health Group in San Diego, California.
