In a Sept. 27 New York Times business column, CHP/PCOR core faculty member Jay Bhattacharya discusses a view held by some health economists -- including Bhattacharya, and David Cutler of Harvard -- that the United States' hefty healthcare spending is worth it, since the spending (particularly on high-tech medical devices) translates into longer life and a better quality of life for many patients.
