Speaker
M. Kate Bundorf - Stanford University

One of the most persistent problems facing healthcare policymakers in the United States is the existence of a large number of uninsured Americans. While economic theory suggests that health risk may be an important factor determining the purchase of health insurance in private markets, relatively little empirical evidence exists concerning the extent to which health risk differs between the insured and uninsured. Yet, both the consequences of being uninsured and the types of policies likely to reduce the number of uninsured depend in part on the health status of those without coverage. For this Research in Progress seminar, the speaker will discuss research that examines the relationship between health risk and the purchase of health insurance, focusing on differences between the individual and group markets in this relationship.
