Rita Redberg, MD, M.Sc - Professor and Director of Women's Cardiovascular Services at UCSF Medical Center
As a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow working in the U.S. Senate over the past year, Rita Redberg -- professor and director of Women's Cardiovascular Services at UCSF Medical Center -- had a chance to observe firsthand the fascinating interaction of politics and health policy. For this Research in Progress Seminar, Redberg will discuss her insights into current health policy issues and priorities, using several current cases as examples. One key area of importance she will discuss is the role of scientific evidence in health policy. She will also discuss the current status of stem-cell research locally and nationally; two recent cases of expanded Medicare coverage for emerging technologies and treatments; and the current political environment for healthcare legislation.
