The Stanford Evidence-based Practice Center reviewed data on the comparative effectiveness of PCI and CABG for the treatment of coronary disease. The major questions we addressed were

  1. the overall effects of these treatments on outcome and
  2. the extent to which the comparative effectiveness varied according to clinical characteristics.

I will describe the results of our literature review and synthesis in addressing these issues. I will also describe our initiative to pool individual patient level data from randomized trials to better address whether treatment effectiveness varies in clinical subgroups.
